About Lake Powell
Lake Powell is the second-largest reservoir in the United States by capacity and the centerpiece of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Formed by Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River, the lake stretches from the town of Page, Arizona deep into southern Utah, filling a labyrinth of red-rock side canyons carved from Navajo sandstone. Its scale is unusual for houseboating — cruising fetch is measured in dozens of miles, and many of the most photographed side canyons are a full day or more from any single marina.
